I can remember when I first started wearing a hijab, I ruined so many beautiful scarves as I just didn't know how to care for them. So I thought it might be useful to put a little note here on how to care and look after your scarves. I hope it helps
Washing GuideAfter making many mistakes and ruining many scarves(wasting lots of money!)nowadays I have learned to always hand wash them. If you put nice patterned or striped pashmina's in the wash the colour will run. Some plain cotton or polyester hijabs will be ok in a cool wash on the washing machine. However if they have any delicate beads or embroidery I personally would not risk putting it in the machine. Instead it is best to hand wash it with products such as Woolite in cool water.
Pins
If you like to pin your hijab under the chin, do not use standard safety pins! These will cause snags and holes in your scarves ruining it. Instead use coiless pins. They are cheap to buy, and will save you a lot of money. No more snags and holes in your scarves!
Ironing
Iron scarves on a low heat. Ironing scarves on a high heat will cause them to burn .
Storage
Make sure you store your hijabs in a suitable place for example somewhere dry and not damp or in a drawer with sharp items etc.
Scarf hangers are a great way to store your scarves. They are available at quite low prices in stores like Ikea or Dunelm Mill, and will keep your scarves organised and wrinkle free. Storing them in piles is usually a bad idea as they will always be messy, get creased, plus you tend to pick the ones at the top. You forget about that pretty scarf youve never worn, just hiding underneath the pile at the back!
Insha Allah this little guide will help you to care for your hijabs and save money too!
